SEWAGE FILTRATION
- As sewage enters a plant for treatment, it flows through a screen, which removes large floating objects that might clog the pipes and damage equipment.
- Sewage filtration is generally a part of preliminary treatment of sewage to separate floating matter like dead animals, tree branches, papers, pieces of wood, rags, etc.
- Filtration reduces the BOD of wastewater by 15 to 30%.
- Filtration is a process that removes particles in from water.
- Filters can be categorized by the main method of capture.
- Filters, as commonly understood in water treatment generally consist of a medium within which most of the particles in the water will be captured.
- Sewage filtration is mainly carried-out using bar screens
- Bar racks remove larger objects
- Solid material collected in hopper is sent to a landfill after the bar rack is cleaned mechanically or manually
- In wastewater treatment, filtration takes place twice. Once during the arrival of sewage into the treatment facility and again at the advanced treatment process if the sewage effluent is to be reused for domestic purposes.
- Filtration of wastewater is a cost effective solution for enhanced wastewater treatment and water reuse.
- Wastewater filtration is also a required in places where the environmental regulations for wastewater discharge are stringent
