Chloride content in water

CHLORIDE CONTENT IN WATER
  • Chlorides are generally present in water in the form of Sodium Chloride (NaCl)
  • Chloride content in water occurs due to leaching of marine sedimentary deposits, pollution from sea water, brine or industrial domestic wastes
  • Concentration of Chlorides above 250 mg/l produces a noticeably salty taste and is objectioable.
  • Presence of high concentration . Chlorides in river or stream waters indicates pollution of water due to sewage, human or industrial waste.
  • Hence, water needs to be regularly tested for detecting a sudden increase of chloride concentration indicating possibility of organic pollution
  • The chloride content of treated water should not exceed 250 ppm.
