CHLORIDE CONTENT IN WATER
- Chlorides are generally present in water in the form of Sodium Chloride (NaCl)
- Chloride content in water occurs due to leaching of marine sedimentary deposits, pollution from sea water, brine or industrial domestic wastes
- Concentration of Chlorides above 250 mg/l produces a noticeably salty taste and is objectioable.
- Presence of high concentration . Chlorides in river or stream waters indicates pollution of water due to sewage, human or industrial waste.
- Hence, water needs to be regularly tested for detecting a sudden increase of chloride concentration indicating possibility of organic pollution
- The chloride content of treated water should not exceed 250 ppm.
